What this tool is for

Use this page when you need to know the full monthly pay stack during deployment. It adds base pay, BAS, BAH, and the deployment supplements (IDP or HFP, mutually exclusive; HDP-L; and FSA) and applies a deduction rate for a planning estimate.

Worked example

Example: an E-5 with 4 years of service deploying to an IDP area for 30 days with dependents and no HFP can see total monthly gross and adjusted pay including the $225 IDP cap.

When to use it

Use it for deployment budget planning, calculating how much to allot home, or comparing income during vs after a deployment.

When not to use it

Do not use it for combat-zone tax exclusion (CZTE) scenarios without noting that BAH and BAS are already tax-exempt. CZTE excludes basic pay from federal tax in designated combat zones. Enter a lower deduction rate to model this.

What the result means

Gross monthly includes the full pay stack. Adjusted monthly applies the deduction rate. IDP and HFP are mutually exclusive. Selecting HFP zeroes out IDP regardless of days entered.

Site assumptions

  • IDP and HFP are mutually exclusive per 37 U.S.C. § 310. Selecting HFP overrides any IDP days entered.
  • IDP is $7.50/day, capped at $225/month. HFP is a flat $225/month.
  • FSA is $300/month effective January 1, 2026 (37 U.S.C. § 427).
  • HDP-L levels ($0, $50, $100, $150/month) are set by DoD annually.
  • BAH is included at the member's duty ZIP and dependent status. Combat zones may have separate BAH treatment. Verify with finance.
  • The deduction rate is a planning estimate. Combat-zone tax exclusion (CZTE) can reduce taxable income significantly; enter a lower rate if applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official government site?

No. This is an independent planning utility, not an official U.S. Government website. Do not submit CUI, ITAR, classified, or sensitive personal information. Always verify estimates with official sources before making financial decisions.

How accurate are these estimates?

These are planning estimates based on official DFAS, DoD, and service-specific sources. Actual pay may vary based on your specific situation, special pays, tax withholdings, and other factors. Use these tools for planning purposes and verify with your finance office.

When was this data last updated?

Check the source and assumptions sections on this page for the current effective date used by the site. If the linked official pages have changed since then, use the official pages first.

What's the difference between gross and adjusted monthly?

Gross monthly is your total compensation before deductions (base pay + BAS + BAH + special pays). Adjusted monthly is an estimate of your take-home pay after accounting for federal tax, state tax, and FICA deductions.

This estimate uses simplified planning assumptions. Review the linked methodology and official source pages before making financial decisions. Spotted an error or have a suggestion? Send a note.
