What this tool is for

Use this page to estimate total monthly pay including the AvIP or AF Enlisted CSIP rate for your years of aviation service. Officer AvIP is authorized under 37 U.S.C. § 301a; AF Enlisted CSIP is a separate critical-skill incentive pay for Air Force enlisted aircrew. Both use floor-year rate tables.

Worked example

Example: a Navy O-4 with 8 years of aviation service can see total monthly gross and adjusted pay including the officer AvIP rate applicable at 6–9 years.

When to use it

Use it when evaluating the aviation pay component of total compensation, planning around aviation service milestones, or comparing AvIP rates across years of aviation service.

When not to use it

Do not use it for Aviation Career Incentive Pay (ACIP) agreements. The rates here are the DoD maximum rates effective October 1, 2017. Service-specific rates may be lower. Verify current rates with your aviation pay officer.

What the result means

Gross monthly includes base pay, BAS, BAH, and aviation pay. Adjusted monthly applies the deduction rate. The rate shown is the DoD-published maximum for the entered years of aviation service. Actual service rates may be set lower.

Site assumptions

  • Officer AvIP rates are the DoD maximum rates effective October 1, 2017, per DoD FMR Vol. 7A, Chapter 22. Service-specific rates (Army AVIP3, Navy AVIP8, Air Force AVIP5, Marine Corps AVIP6) may be set at or below these maximums.
  • AF Enlisted Flyer CSIP rates are effective October 1, 2017. Applies to Air Force enlisted aircrew in designated critical-skill aviation specialties.
  • A floor-year lookup is used: the highest year threshold at or below entered years of aviation service determines the applicable rate.
  • The deduction rate is a planning estimate. Actual withholding depends on your total annual income and filing status.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official government site?

No. This is an independent planning utility, not an official U.S. Government website. Do not submit CUI, ITAR, classified, or sensitive personal information. Always verify estimates with official sources before making financial decisions.

How accurate are these estimates?

These are planning estimates based on official DFAS, DoD, and service-specific sources. Actual pay may vary based on your specific situation, special pays, tax withholdings, and other factors. Use these tools for planning purposes and verify with your finance office.

When was this data last updated?

Check the source and assumptions sections on this page for the current effective date used by the site. If the linked official pages have changed since then, use the official pages first.

What's the difference between gross and adjusted monthly?

Gross monthly is your total compensation before deductions (base pay + BAS + BAH + special pays). Adjusted monthly is an estimate of your take-home pay after accounting for federal tax, state tax, and FICA deductions.

This estimate uses simplified planning assumptions. Review the linked methodology and official source pages before making financial decisions. Spotted an error or have a suggestion? Send a note.
