What this tool is for
Use this page to estimate total monthly compensation while on a qualifying hazardous duty assignment. HDIP is a flat monthly rate that varies by duty type, authorized under 37 U.S.C. § 351 and implemented via DoD FMR Vol. 7A, Chapter 24.
Worked example
Example: an Army E-5 with 4 years of service assigned to military free fall (HALO/HAHO) operations can see total monthly gross and adjusted pay including the $240/month HDIP rate.
When to use it
Use it when assigned or about to be assigned to a qualifying hazardous duty to estimate the HDIP contribution to your budget.
When not to use it
Do not use it for Hostile Fire Pay (HFP) or Imminent Danger Pay (IDP). Those are separate pays modeled in the Deployment Pay Calculator. HDIP can be received simultaneously with HFP/IDP if all conditions are met.
What the result means
Gross monthly includes base pay, BAS, BAH, and HDIP. Adjusted monthly applies the deduction rate. The HDIP rate displayed is the published flat monthly rate for the selected duty type.

Site assumptions
- HDIP rates are drawn from DoD FMR Vol. 7A, Chapter 24, updated March 5, 2026.
- The Army temporary static line rate ($200/month) applies October 1, 2025 through May 20, 2029 per FY2026 NDAA authority. After that date, the standard $150 rate applies.
- Military Free Fall (HALO/HAHO) is the only HDIP duty type with a rate above $150/month ($240).
- The deduction rate is a planning estimate. Actual withholding depends on your total annual income and filing status.

No. This is an independent planning utility, not an official U.S. Government website. Do not submit CUI, ITAR, classified, or sensitive personal information. Always verify estimates with official sources before making financial decisions.
How accurate are these estimates?
These are planning estimates based on official DFAS, DoD, and service-specific sources. Actual pay may vary based on your specific situation, special pays, tax withholdings, and other factors. Use these tools for planning purposes and verify with your finance office.
When was this data last updated?

What's the difference between gross and adjusted monthly?
Gross monthly is your total compensation before deductions (base pay + BAS + BAH + special pays). Adjusted monthly is an estimate of your take-home pay after accounting for federal tax, state tax, and FICA deductions.
